Edward Gorey, at home with his cats.

maudnewton:

Of the six cats that he kept in a one-room apartment, every one was more than a little weird — the outstanding example being an Abyssinian, ”all personality and crazed charm,” that didn’t purr until it was 10. Many of his cats were named from classical Japanese literature, one of the myriad subjects upon which he was almost spookily erudite.

Via mkhall, excessisease, withnailrules. And here’s A.N. Devers on the collection of fur coats he accumulated and wore until, in penance, he locked them in a storage facility, let raccoons take over his attic, and left his entire estate to the care and welfare of animals.
My favorite Edward Gorey biographical detail? He and Frank O’Hara were roommates at Harvard.
