We teach confusing lessons to children. In their first years, we surround them with security, but that’s only preparation to release them into the wild. We then teach them to share, to be fair, only to turn around and tell them that, of course, life isn’t fair at all. If we can’t even teach these simple principles to them, how are we supposed to teach them how to stand up for good, even in adversity, even in the face of literal evil? How are we going to teach them to trust their own goodness?
